What is Capacity Lock?
For performances where you have set a capacity (read more about setting a capacity here), you are able to apply a 'Capacity Lock' to certain types of ticket.
Selecting the Capacity Lock option when creating a new ticket is a way of guaranteeing that even when the rest of the ticket inventory sells out, this type of ticket will still be available.
For example, let's imagine that you have set your event capacity to 100. Then you create the following types of ticket with the appropriate quantities available:
- General Admission x 100
- Concession x 100
- Complimentary x 5 Capacity Locked
(Complimentary ticket set as a "Hidden" ticket so it can only be seen and used on the internal issue tickets widget, and not the customer facing ticket widget)
By ticking the 'Capacity Lock' box, this will treat theComplimentary tickets differently to the rest of the inventory.
If we imagine that sales are ticking along and that 85 tickets have been sold, across the following ticket types:
- General Admission x 60
- Concession x 25
- Complimentary x 0 Capacity Locked
Tickets remaining before we hit capacity of 100: 15
Although there are 15 tickets left for sale, crucially there are still 5 Capacity Locked Complimentary tickets available. Therefore, in reality, only another 10 tickets of the General Admission and Concession ticket types will be available for sale as the Capacity Lock always reserves the remaining number of capacity locked tickets in the remaining inventory.
In this instance, if another 10 General Admission tickets were sold (making it 95 tickets sold in total) only the Complimentary ticket would be available and the rest of the ticket types would appear as sold out.
